The Long Term Care Ombudsman (LTCO) Program is mandated by the U.S. Administration on Aging to advocate for and protect
the rights of residents of nursing homes, adult residential care homes, expanded adult residential care homes and
assisted living facilities. The LTCO staff serve long-term care residents statewide by
investigating and working toward the resolution of their complaints. In addition to responding to inquiries and
requests for assistance, LTCO staff make unannounced visits to LTC facilities. The program also provides information
and referral assistance, conducts educational activities to increase community awareness of elder rights, advocates at
the Legislature, and provides training to LTC staff, Family Councils and Resident Councils. All reports and inquiries
to the LTCO are confidential.
